Ann Hill
Partly wooded hill over Lobendava. On the top of the hill the St.
Ann Chapel was built in 1775 with the stations of the cross and a
Getseman garden. Every year pilgrims from far and wide come to the
chapel on a Sunday nearest to 26 July.
Basilica of St. Mary in
Filipov (1)
Pseudo-Roman church of 1885 built on the place of a miracle that
occured on 13 November 1866 when a severely ill weaver, Magdalen
Kade, miraculously recovered. In 1926, after the visit of Pope Pius
XI., the church became a basilaca. There is a former Redemptorist
monastery in the neighbouring.
Dýmník (516 m) (2)
Basalt hill near Rumburk with a 15-meter tall observation tower on
the top built in 1896. All-round view.
Geologic Map
Registered technical landmark in the colony of Zahrady. An
exemplificative map composed of real minerals brought from the
represented territories. The map is place on private grounds.
Hrádek (429 m) (3)
The dominant of Varnsdorf which once had a luxury restaurant built
in 1904. Today the restaurant is dilapidated. An endowment fund was
created to provide means for the reconstruction of the restaurant
which is supposed to be opened in 2004. The top of the hill is a
marvelous observation point.
Hrazený (608 m)
Basalt hill of singular shape, the highest one in Sluknov
upland. It is fringed with brows of palisade-like layers of
basalt. No lookout.
Jáchym (472 m)
A granite hill near Lipova. On the top of the hill there are
the remains of the stations of the cross and a chapel from
1914. No lookout. The name of the hill is derived from the
name of an hermit Jachym (Joachim) who live in here.
Jedlova Mountain (774 m) (4)
The third highest mountain of Lusatia Mountains. On the top of
Jedlova there is a 23-meter tall observation tower built in 1891 and
reconstructed in 1993. A memorial of Friedrich Schiller, a German
poet and playwright, is situated next to the tower as well as a
restaurant and hotel which is open throughout the whole year. A ski
lift runs to the top of the mountain and there are several ski
running track around the mountain.
Křížová hora (St. Cross
Hill) (563 m) (5)
Basalt hill over Jiřetín pod Jedlovou with well-preserved station
of the Cross from the second half of the 18th century. The place is
quite frequented.
Kyjov Valley
A romantic valley along Krinice River. The valley starts in the
village of Kyjov, is 7 km long and ends on the czech-German border.
The remains of three medieval rock forts suggest trade path led from
Bohemia to Hohnstein castle through the valley.
Rustic Architecture (6)
Singular archictural phenomenon of the northmost part of Bohemi and
Upper Lusati is a typoe of houses with timbered ground floor and
base and half-timbered upper floor. This type of house is an
evidence of yearlong symbiosis of the population on both sides of
the border. They bear witness of the influence of wood-framed houses
of Southern France on timbered Slavic houses. Typically, the houses
have a wooden supporting frame which lines the inner timbered room
in an arcade-like manner and bears the upper floor and the roof.
Snadstone or granite portals, metal-wrought grates in windows next
to the portal, and slate-board facing are other characteristics of
this kind of houses. There are various sizes and shapes of houses
built in this style ranging from small weavers' houses to big
landholders' houses and factor houses.
Loreta Chapel (7)
In the center of Rumburk you can find an important cultural landmark
situated in the complex of the Capuchin monastery and St. Laurence
Church - the northmost Loreta-type chapel in Europe built according
to the Italian model between 1704 and 1709.
Mandava
The only river in the Decin district that brings water to Oder
River (to the Baltic Sea). It has its sources in small brooks
in Pansky, Nove Krecany and Zahrady. It crosses the German
border in Varnsdorf.
Mikulasovice Chapel (8)
A unique abroque Trinity Chapel of 1741. Reconstructed. the chapel
stands alone on the right side of the road from Mikulasovice to
Brtniky.
Museum in Krasna Lipa
Situated in the oldest building from the year 1726 called At the
Frind's. The exposition presents the history of the town,
glassmaking tradition in the region and various sights attractive
for tourism.
Museum in Jiretin pod
Jedlovou
Situated in a historic building in the former baroque parsonage on
the square. The museum was established in 1998 and is devoted to the
history of mining in Jiretin pod Jedlovou and its environs and to
the history of Tolstej castle. A part of the exposition is the
nature trail in Milirka Valley and the mine gallery of St. John the
Evangelist.
Museum in Rumburk
Harbours collections of regional importance, a hall dedicated to the
Rumburk Rebellion, an exhibition of painting by Georg Frind, a
peinter from Krasna Lipa. Exhibition of visual arts are organized in
the museum.
Museum in Varnsdorf
An exposition called Lifestyle of the Middle Class in the 2nd Half
of the 19th century. Exhibitions are organized on a regular basis,
and lecture and publication activities are organized by the Museum
Friends Circle.
National Park Czech
Switzerland
The Tolstejn Dominion is a part of the national park that was
officially declared on 1 January 2000 as the fourth national park in
the Czech Republic in response to the declaration of the German
National Park of Saxon Switzerland (1990). The area has many block
sandstone, rocks and woods are the home of many endangered animal
species as well as of important plants. The headquarters of the
national park are situated in Krasna Lipa.
Nature Trails
Miner's Trail (Milirka Valley) - documents mining activities in the
environs of Jiretin pod Jedlovou, is 4,5 km long.
Forester's Trail - maps animal and botanical species and other
natural curiosities between Sluknov and Rozany, is 7 km long.
Naturalist's Trail - documents botanical, animal and and geologic
curiosities between the Great Lake and Svetlik, bears witness of
respectfull exploitation of the environment before World War II, is
4 km long.
Partyzansky Hill (543 m)
Basalt range between Sluknov and Velky Senov. It used to have two
tops, one of them is quarried out. The hill is being consumed by the
quarry on a hill-side. The hill is a par of the watershed of the
Baltic and Norther Seas. The foot of the hill is fringed with a
0.5-2 meter high basalt fringe of unknown origin. The name of the
hill (partyzan = guerilla soldier) commemorates an event of 6 June
1945-two army officers were killed near the road on the northern
hill-side (the place of the memorial), the killers never being
discovered. The officers were Lieutenant Josef Sindelar (former
member of a guerilla brigade) of Polish origin and corporal Vladimir
Malina.
Krinice Springs
Pavillon with banks, a tourist map and a panel de\scription of the
Krinice River flow (40 km long). Krinice has a length of 7 km on the
Czech territory and in Bad Schandau falls to River Elbe.
Rožany
Brook-side part of Sluknov, mentioned as early as in 1346. The
altered stream had many bleachery points in the past. Along
the road there is the Maple Gate-two tall trees standing side
by side at a distance of 3 meters and their tops being grown
together in the height of 5 meters.
Severní
The northernmost village of the Czech Republic. In 1472 here
and in the nearby Lobendava, first peasant rebellions in
Rumburk area broke out when peasants rejected to provide bond-service
to their new Saxon landlords.
Sněžná
In the past, Snezna was a famous pilgrimage place in the
vicinity of Krasna Lipa (5 August). The church of St. Mary
from 1732. An arboretum of rockplants and rosebays is situated
on a private area. Well-preserved rustic architecture from
18th and 19th century.
Světlík (18 ha) (9)
Nature reserve with a pond and a windmill (in operation till
1945). The mill is a registered technical landmark with well-preserved
machinery, without vanes, to be reconstructed shortly.
Mine gallery of St. John
Evangelist
A silver mine gallery made accessible to the public from 1781, 640 m
long of which 360 m is accessible. The gallery is a part of the
exposition of the local museum in Jiretin pod Jedlovou.
Tanečnice (597 m) (10)
A large granite hill with basalt top. The name of the hill
Tanecnice (Dancer) is derived from fairies dancing in the
woods on clear nights and practising witchcraft. A stone
observation tower from 1905, 26 m high, excellent all-round
view. On the place of the present-day restaurant there used to
stand once favourite Uncle Tom's Cottage (burnt out after the
war).
Valy (543 m)
An elevation near Studanka village of strategic importance due
to the range of view from the top. There are the remains of
ramparts from 1642 which served as a base of the Swedish army
under General Wrangel before capturing and destroying Tolstejn.
Vápenný Hill
Granit hill between Krasna Lipa and Doubice. Nature reserve of rare
flora and minerals. The hill is a part of the Lusatia Shift-a
meeting point of granit, sandstone and limestone geologic formations.
Velký rybník (Great Lake)
(36 ha)
The largest water area in Decin district, an important
ornithological locality where amny species of birds of passage rest
on their way. Since 1982 the lake ha s a status of a nature reserve
including swamp with rare plants.
Verunka Spring
A water spring from 1886 on the foothill of Vlci hora, restored in
1996 by the Club of Czech Tourists, produces excellent potable water.
Visitors can rest on banks around the spring.
Vlčí hora (588 m) (11)
Basalt hill near Krasna Lipa. On the top of the hill there are
basalt posts containing a high amount of magnetite causing
deviation of compass needle up to 40°. In 1889 The Club of
Mountaineers of the northemost Bohemia had a 16-meter high
observation tower built here. All-round view. The environs of
the tower is a nature reserve, satinflower blossoms here at
the end of May. Verunka Spring is located on the southern
hillside.
Lipova Manor
The only true manor in the northernmost Bohemia, a baroque three-wing
building built by Count Leopolf Salm in 1737-1739. Garden and pond
(10 ha) with a tiny island. Since the fifties of the last century
the manor was occupied by frontier police and army, alternatively,
which contributed to the destruciton of the building. Today, the
manor has a private owner.
Rumburk Manor
A former manor finished in 1587. The seat of the Tolstejn dominion
transfered here in 1555 from Tolstejn castle. Nowadays, the manor
houses a polygraphical training center.
Sluknov Manor (12)
a former Renaissance manor with a beautiful park rich in rare tree
species. The manor was built by Ernest of Schleinitz in the 2nd half
of the 16th century. In 1986 the manor burnt up and is being
reconstructed.
Zadní Doubice
A disappeared colony at the end of the Kyjov valley. A
monument commemorating eight prisoners of Nazi concentration
camp in Schwarzheide killed during a death march in 1945 on
the way to Chribska. Near the tourist border crossing there is
a Wolf Board reminding of two wolves shot dead here in 1640.
Railway Viaduct (13)
Technical landmark in Vilemov, one of the most beautiful railway
bridges. 190 m long, 34 m high above the Brook of Vilemov.
