Krásná Lípa

The history of the city goes back to the 13th century and the first recorded mention of the city comes to us from 1361 describing the city as a long tract village. The village was raised to the status of a city in 1870. Fifteen years later the first tourist club on the territory of the Czech Republic was founded here. Nowadays, the city is the center of tourism and nature protection activities. It is the seat of the Elbe-Lusatia Division of the Czech Club of Tourists and the seat of the headquarters of the National Park Czech Switzerland.


The Wolf Mountain (Vlci hora) has fresh water springs called Verunka's Fountain (Veruncina Studanka) on the southern slope.

The plastic geologic map of the surroundings, a protected technical monument, is composed of genuine mineral stones found on the represented territory. The map is situated on the private ground of the Schnitters family in the village of Zahrady.

The Kyjov valley, a part of the Krinice River Canyon, leads to a tourist border crossing to Germany. Three medieval fortresses suggest that in the past a trade path led in the valley from Bohemia to Hohnstein castle (in Germany). The valley hides many archeological secrets.


The Wolf Mountain (Vlci hora) with a observation tower (581 m) is the destination of many tourists. The greystone of the mountain contains a large proportion of magnetite so that the compass needle gets deviated as much as 40°.

The city museum on the square is located in the oldest house built in 1726 called U Frinda (At the Frind's). The ehibition shows the history of tourism and glassmaking and the history of the city.

There was a short period in the 20s of the previous century of Böhmerland motocycle production in the city. The motorcycles are very rare and unique.
