Chřibská

The municipality was first mentioned in 1383 as a parish village. Long before there was a Slavic settlement in the basin through which a trade path from Bohemia and Lusatia was leading. The village belonged to the castle Tolstejn and in 1428 it became the property of the Vartenberks of Decin, then it was promoted to the status of a city and in 1614 it became the property of the Kinskys of Ceska Kamenice. Chribska was not a residence of aristicracy, but a center of trade and crafts so it remained a city witout walls and gates. The city was guarded by the archery guild endowed with privileges and since 1596 by a shooters' union. The oldest glassworks in Europe, still in operation, is situated in Horni Chribska.

In a short time a regional museum devoted to this schoar will be opened in the house.

In the building of the spice packhouse in Dolni Chribska an old spice-mill from 1884 remained conserved. The mill was in operation for one hundred years. For the time of its existence the mill had a very sophisticated equipment which is still in a good condition and is declared a protected technical monument.

Picturesque corners of the municipality are embellished by half-timbered houses now serving as weekend cottages. They are witnesses of the life-style of the long past.

Numerous sandstone formations are scattered in the woods around Chribska. Unique formations can also to be found in the nearby Jetrichovice Rocks, Tokan, Pusty zamek.

A singular architectural phenomenon of northern Bohemia and Upper Lusatia are houses with timbered ground floor and base and half-timbered upper floor which are quite numerous in Chribska.
